The stated reason for the closure was “the economics of operating a small iGaming business in the UK market and upcoming changes in the legislation that would impose more obligations towards operators” — in other words, STS.BET Limited judged that the compliance cost of staying in the UK no longer stacked up against the size of its UK customer base. Any bets due to settle after 14th February 2023 were voided and stakes returned, unused bonuses and free bets were forfeited, and customers with remaining balances were told to contact support with identity verification to withdraw. Dormant accounts left untouched were later warned they would start incurring a £5 inactivity fee from 10th August 2024 onward, per the operator’s terms.
